NGC 3953 is a barred spiral galaxy (SBbc) located about 64 million light-years (or 19.6 million parsecs) away in the constellation Ursa Major. Its dimensions are 128 x 67,000 light-years in diameter, a declination of +52° 19' 30" and a right ascension of 11 hours, 53 minutes and 48.4 seconds. NGC 3953 was discovered on April 12, 1789 by William Herschel. It was the host of the nova SN 2006bp. It is part of the M109 Group, which in turn is a subgroup of the Ursa Major Cluster.
