NGC 4559 (also known as C 36) is a spiral galaxy in the constellation of Coma Berenices.
It is easily located 2 degrees east of the star γ Comae Berenices; it is also clearly visible with powerful binoculars, such as 11x80, in which however it will not present details and will appear as a bright patch. The view becomes interesting with a 200mm aperture telescope, in which you can distinguish the nucleus and two spiral arms, one facing north and the other south. It does not appear to be part of any group of nearby galaxies, being in an intermediate position between that of NGC 4631, closer to us, and that of NGC 4565, more remote. It is about 21 million light-years from the Milky Way.
